Mauve flowers, orange butterfies

I was out emptying the dog this morning and it seemed to me that there are a lot of mauve flowers and orange butterflies about at the moment. There was also a dragonfly but that was more powder blue - sorry about that :), oh, and one of the butterflies is more brown than orange.

  2. In English it is a Peacock butterfly because of the similarity between its eyespots and a peacocks tail eyespots. The scientific name is Aglais io and in German it is Tagpfauenauge. They can be seen in winter on a warm sunny day as they are dormant (not hibernating) and will fly if the temperature is high enough.
