Poor Sadie

Sadie has been poorly for a couple of months now. She has a problem with one of her legs - ligament apparently. It means she is on powerful pain killers and limps so has only had short walks as she tires easily, I have had to carry her home a couple of times. This was taken about a week ago. I decided to take her to the beach, as much as anything to get her used to riding in the trailer again as I wanted to take her to the vets about 5 miles away for an operation on her leg (for those readers who understand English idioms I am now short of one arm and one leg[1]).

I took her for a last walk before her operation.

But we had to rest frequently!

Well she has had the operation now and she is in even more pain - new pain killers, no walks. I now have to carry her outside if she wants to wee.

This is how she looked after the operation.

Unfortunately she wanted to eat the dressing so reluctantly I had to do this to her.

According to the vets she will slowly get better with good care but she can't go out for walks at the moment. I have to put a cold compress on her leg 4 times a day and generally gives her loads of TLC[2]. I also have to try and get her weight down so there is less stress on the leg. The vet says it will be about 10 weeks before she is fully recovered. I have to go back to the vet in a couple of days so they can check her progress. It is going to be long and slow so I hope Sadie has patience with me - I can't wait to take her out for a proper walk again, at the momentt she is completely housebound.

[1] "Costs an arm and a leg" means that the cost is very high
[2] TLC means tender love and care

Oh OK then

Happy New Year to all my reader.

There are signs nature is waking up which is nice but also a little concerning, I saw my first snowdrops at the beginning of December, usually not seen until January. Crocuses (crocii?) have been in flower for a few weeks and bluebell shoots are poking through autumn's leaves.

The birds are singing too, robins have been for quite a while but are getting more vocal and it is nice to hear the great tits evocative simple 'teacher' song again. Song thrushes, wrens, dunnocks are all at it and the days are beginning to get longer. However, the down side is it is very muddy out there and I seem to spend a lot of my time cleaning my dog!
